AH Stock Market Crashes
Sometimes the Auction House really screws you, instead of being the "gold faucet" that you have come to know and love.
What sucks in World of Warcraft is when there is a server downtime event and you have high priced items (tens to hundreds of gold in buyout value), because it force-expires all your items and you lose the deposit. This might not seem too bad, but the deposit on a high priced item is actually fairly high, like 20% of the item buyout. If you sink most of your money into investing on "good buys" (using Auctioneer's percentless command) to resell at higher values, and don't hold a cash reserve, this can literally tap you out and prevent you from re-listing the items next time you log on.
What sucks is also when you lose all your Auctioneer data after a new patch that breaks mods (because fixing them requires downloading new versions of mods and wiping your /WTF directory, to prevent bugs from cropping up), and everyone starts relisting their expired items again at rock bottom prices. In such an event, people on a server either manually list them at default price, or auctioneer simply uses three times that price if no collected/scanned data is available. So your 15 gold valued buyout auction of a superior (blue) drop recipe not only tanks down to compete with idiots posting their new auctions of the same item at 1 or 2 gold, but you also just lost the aforementioned deposit.
